Every year, the Eagle Field Foundation participates in public events to educate and promote the Mission of the Foundation. The following are some of the major events where our displays can be viewed and experienced ‘hands-on’.
Memorial Day at Oak Hill • May 27th, 2019
This year the Eagle Field Foundation is proud to present our largest display yet. We will be showcasing a WWI trench, a D-Day display, a Long Range Desert Group camp with trucks, several armored vehicles from our Vietnam war and modern collection.
There are more than 14,000 veterans buried at Oak Hill and an estimated 5,000 people are expected to come out to honor them.
Local Boy and Girl Scouts place American flags at the headstones of veterans of all wars in six burial plots: the Veteran’s Plot, Field of Honor Plot, Spanish American War Plot, two Civil War Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Plots and Women’s Relief Corps GAR Auxiliary Plot.
Additional displays at this event include several World War I-era classic cars, a fighter jet from the Korean War, and a fully restored Huey helicopter will fly in and land. A small veterans’ resource fair will also be held and free hot dogs are barbecued for everyone.
The Memorial Day Ceremony is held at the Veteran’s Plot at 11 am and includes the posting of military and veteran organization colors, placing of wreaths, a rifle salute and playing of Taps.
• This event is FREE and open to the public •
